Gouda's rugby began with six players borrowing a football club's training pitch on Saturday mornings in the late 1970s. More people joined, friendlies followed, and RFC Gouda was formally founded in 1980. The club still places volunteers and doing your share at the centre of its values.

RFC Gouda began with six players on GSV's training pitch
The club's archived history says six players were initially allowed to use football club GSV's training pitch on Saturday mornings in the late 1970s. The group grew to ten or fifteen and began playing friendlies before RFC Gouda's formal founding in 1980.
