At four o'clock on 14 November, AAC and Ascrum will arrive at Sportpark de Eendracht with one called the home side and the other the visitor. It is the same ground both clubs call home.
That fixture tells you what has changed in the 2026/27 Ereklasse. Ascrum are back after winning every match they played. AAC have an Amsterdam rival again. Haagsche RC begin with two consecutive national titles behind them, while The Dukes start after topping the regular-season table and leaving the final eight points short.
All 12 clubs are on the official Ereklasse rugby schedule from 5 September to 15 May. The fixture list gives us 22 rounds, two Amsterdam derbies and a title race carrying unfinished business from last May.
Ascrum did not sneak into the Ereklasse
Ascrum played 19 matches in 2025/26 and won all 19 with a bonus point. They scored 945 points, conceded 185 and finished the job by beating Bredase RC 57–10 in the promotion match.
That record makes their return one of the season's main stories, not a footnote at the bottom of the table. Rugby Nederland says this is Ascrum's first Ereklasse season since November 2022. Their own season record shows just how emphatically they earned it.
The first test comes away at RC ’t Gooi on 5 September, followed by a trip to The Dukes one week later. Ascrum dominated one level down; the question now is how quickly that confidence carries into a division where the speed is higher and the margin for a loose twenty minutes is smaller.
Amsterdam gets its derby back
AAC host Ascrum on Saturday 14 November at 16:00. The reverse fixture is set for Saturday 1 May, also at 16:00. Both are listed at Sportpark de Eendracht, because the two clubs do not merely share a city. They share a home address.
That gives the derby a different edge. AAC are entering their second consecutive season back in the top flight and carry 11 men's national titles in their history. Ascrum return as unbeaten First Class champions. The first meeting will tell us something about the Amsterdam order; the second lands late enough to affect much more than local pride.
Haagsche RC can make it three in a row
Haagsche RC beat The Dukes 32–24 in May to retain the men's national title. It was HRC's sixteenth championship, won against the side that had finished above them in the regular season.
The rematches are already in place. The Dukes host HRC on 7 November, then travel to Den Haag on 10 April. Those are not ceremonial champion-versus-runner-up fixtures. The Dukes led the competition before losing the match that settled it, and they now get two direct chances to answer.
The title picture is wider than two clubs. RC ’t Gooi, RC Eemland and RC DIOK have all been national champions since 2021. HRC own the crown, but the calendar is full of teams that know what winning the league requires. The full Dutch rugby champions by year register sits beside the live tables.
Castricum stayed up, and Breda made way
The other survival match matters to the shape of this league. Castricumse RC finished eleventh, then beat Amstelveense RC 52–19 to keep their Ereklasse place. Breda, after one win in the regular season, lost the other play-off to Ascrum and drop out.
It means Ascrum are the only new side in the 12-team field. One change is enough to restore the Amsterdam derby, bring student rugby back to the top level and give every established club a new opponent to work out.
The opening weekend wastes no time
The first round is Saturday 5 September. AAC open at home to DIOK while Ascrum go straight to ’t Gooi. The defending champions start away at Haarlem, and The Dukes begin at home.

Rugby Nederland's 2026/27 season page currently links the full first-phase schedules for the Ereklasse Heren and Future Klasse Heren. Other divisions will follow separately, but there is no need to wait for them before looking properly at the men's top flight.
Ascrum's return changes the league. The Amsterdam derby changes the calendar. HRC's title defence and The Dukes' response give the top of the table unfinished business from the first weekend. That is already more than enough reason to pay attention.
