How rugby is organised in Nigeria

Competition structureAfrica region · Guide updated 12 Aug 2026
StructureCompetitionsClubsSources

Nigeria Rugby Football Federation's 2026 programme plans a six-zone National 15s League, men's and women's National 7s circuits and youth events. This page follows that plan. It does not say every part ran, that a complete national ladder exists or which teams took part.

Governing authorityNigeria Rugby Football Federation

The country structure

Permanent leagues, seasonal phases and parallel competitions stay separate so a cup or playoff is not mistaken for a league tier.

Planned six-zone National 15s League

The federation's 2026 programme describes a National 15s League organised through six zones. It is a plan, not a record of completed fixtures, a current table, the exact regional bodies or one permanent promotion ladder.

  • Zones are programme structure, not confirmed tiers

The six-zone plan is shown here. Qualification, seeding, a full club list and a national final are not, as the federation has not published them.

Men's and women's sevens are separate circuits

The programme plans men's and women's National 7s circuits separately. It does not give complete dates, entrants, standings, phases or a list of which teams play in both.

  • Sevens does not become an XV tier

The planned sevens circuits are a separate format. They are not qualification, promotion or relegation routes for the National 15s League.

Youth events remain a separate programme branch

Youth events appear in the federation's 2026 programme, but the programme does not give exact age bands, school or academy ownership, team names, dates, formats or completed results.

  • Youth labels do not become clubs

School, academy, regional, combined and club sides need a list, with a date, of which club owns which team before they can appear here as clubs or teams.
