On 21 June 2018 the founders turned WRC Te Werve’s second team into a student side. That is how the Hornets began. They got kit and a logo that first year, and they started a women’s side, the Bees.
In spring 2020 the pandemic stopped club activity. The Hornets kept a community going with sessions in the park and online socials. Hornets history page
