1932–1935: Foundation and early grounds
Students at the Academie voor Lichamelijke Opvoeding on the Laan van Poot began by playing rugby against each other. In November 1932, they founded HRC.
HRC moved to a pitch at sportterrein Petrolia on the Buurtweg in 1933.
Two members carried the goalposts by bicycle and rode into a canal
During the 1933 move to the Buurtweg ground, two members tried to transport the goalposts by bicycle. They rode into the Koninginnegracht.
The Béchèt cup given in 1935 is still played for at the start of a season
The club history says the cup was given to HRC in 1935 and is still played for at the start of a season.
The German occupation
The club’s account of the German occupation says rugby was banned, its ground and changing rooms were destroyed, and one player was executed. Individual names have not been confirmed here.
1968–2019: A clubhouse of its own
HRC withdrew from league competition for the 1968/69 season while members built a clubhouse. It opened on 27 September 1969. The 2019 rebuild was constructed on top of that building.
