How rugby is organised in Uganda

Uganda Rugby Union's reviewed 2026 record separates a men's Premiership, a women's Premiership and a national sevens series. The men's Premiership is the bounded family explained here; the wider hierarchy and every participant identity remain unverified.

Governing authorityUganda Rugby Union

Hierarchy

The country structure

Permanent leagues, seasonal phases and parallel competitions stay separate so a cup or playoff is not mistaken for a league tier.

Men's Premiership

URU's 2026 release records an 11-week regular season, top-eight quarter-finals and bottom-four relegation playoffs. These are edition phases rather than proof of a permanent movement system.

  • Two playoff paths

The top eight entered quarter-finals. The bottom four entered separate relegation playoffs, with ninth playing twelfth and eleventh playing tenth.

Women's Premiership

The same URU record says the women's Premiership had completed 12 game weeks before its next phase. The phase shape, table and participant identities were not established.

  • Separate family review required

The women's competition is not a division or phase of the men's Premiership, and no women's family page is projected from the incomplete phase record.

Uganda Rugby 7s Series

URU's reviewed home record names a 2026 men's and women's sevens series and Stone City 7s as its first stop. This guide does not infer the full circuit, standings or rules.

  • Sevens stays separate

The series is a separate rugby format and does not establish participation or movement in either XV Premiership.
