How rugby is organised in Russia
Competition structureEurope region · Guide updated 17 Aug 2026
The Russian Rugby Federation runs the Championship and the High League as separate senior men’s XV competitions, alongside women’s, youth, sevens, cup, beach and snow-rugby competitions. The 2026 Championship is in progress, and the High League schedule shows seven planned entrants and October knockout dates, not a final result. Rugby Europe’s separate suspension decision covers continental and cross-border activity; it does not change the federation’s domestic competition structure.
Permanent leagues, seasonal phases and parallel competitions stay separate so a cup or playoff is not mistaken for a league tier.
Senior men’s XV
The federation’s 2026 pages list the Russian Championship and the High League as separate senior men’s XV competitions. The Championship is still in progress, and the High League schedule names seven teams and an October semi-final and final window, not a completed season.
Russian Championship and High League
The Championship and High League each have their own 2026 federation page. The Championship is in progress; the High League schedule shows seven planned entrants and an October knockout window. This page does not show a permanent first-versus-second-tier relationship, automatic movement between them, licensing outcomes, shared teams or a completed 2026 result.
Senior women
The federation’s 2026 season outline lists a women’s Russian Championship separately from the men’s XV competitions.
Separate women’s family
The women’s championship is separate and has no promotion link to the men’s competitions. This page does not list its teams, results, tables or past seasons.
Cups
The Russian Rugby Federation runs the 2026 Russian Cup as a separate domestic knockout competition.
Separate cup family
Cup rounds do not give a senior league table, a promotion route or a team history.
Sevens, beach and snow rugby
The federation runs men’s and women’s sevens, beach rugby and snow rugby as separate formats.
Separate formats
Events in those formats are not levels of the XV league. Their entries do not link clubs, teams or past records together.
Youth and development
The 2026 season outline and the federation site list youth and development competitions separately.
Age-grade boundary
Youth, development and representative teams do not show a senior first team, a reserve-team link or a lasting club behind them.
International and cross-border boundary
Rugby Europe’s Russia and Belarus decision covers continental and cross-border rugby only, not domestic results.
Keep the authorities separate
A Russian domestic competition page says nothing about international eligibility, continental play, cross-border competition, qualification or endorsement. In the same way, the Rugby Europe decision does not correct, cancel or describe domestic results.
