Japan Rugby League One is a separately run three-division professional competition. Entry is by application and review. Kanto, Kansai, Kyushu, university, company, club and women’s competitions are each run by their own body, not as one automatic national pyramid.
Permanent leagues, seasonal phases and parallel competitions stay separate so a cup or playoff is not mistaken for a league tier.
Japan Rugby League One contains Divisions 1, 2 and 3, a Division 1 playoff and season-specific replacement series between adjacent divisions.
Professional operator family
The completed 2025/26 season is one connected competition. Division names, playoffs and replacement matches are phases of that season, not separate clubs.
Top East, Top West, Top Kyushu and Top Club are run by separate regional bodies. Their structures and qualification paths do not give automatic promotion into League One.
Owner-specific families
Each regional competition has its own season, teams, promotion rules and corrections. A company or sponsor name is not automatically a club.
The Kanto women’s XV competition is run separately, and it includes combined sides that cannot be folded into the men’s system.
Combined sides stay explicit
A combined side is a season team, not another name for either organisation in it.
JRFU’s national university championship and the company tournament are separate qualification events, not extra rungs in the League One ladder.
Institution and event identity
University, company and cross-region entrants are not clubs, and each belongs to its season.
