How rugby is organised in Switzerland

Clubs listedEurope region · Guide updated 24 Aug 2026
StructureCompetitionsClubsSources

Suisse Rugby publishes senior, women’s, development, youth, cup, playoff and sevens competitions through its SportLoMo Game Center. Stade Lausanne is the one club linked here to its first team in the completed 2025/26 LNA season.

Governing authoritySuisse Rugby
Dutch rugby standings

The country structure

Permanent leagues, seasonal phases and parallel competitions stay separate so a cup or playoff is not mistaken for a league tier.

Senior men

The 2025/26 regulations set LNA, LNB and LNC as first-team levels. LND is a regional development and second-team league.

  • Published league levels

Promotion and relegation between LNA, LNB and LNC in 2025/26 have conditions attached. LNC is split into East and West groups. Promotion from LND depends on eligibility, not the table alone. No 2026/27 line-ups are shown.

Senior women

Under the 2025/26 regulations, LNFA is women’s XV and LNFB is a women’s development league, apart from Swiss Super Sevens Women.

  • LNFA and LNFB

Article 94 allows a 2025/26 play-off between the bottom LNFA team and the LNFB champion, if eligible. That rule does not say what happened, who went up or down, or which teams were involved.

Development and reserve

Excellence A is the reserve championship for LNA clubs. LND is for development and second teams from LNB and LNC clubs.

  • Excellence A

A reserve team’s place follows its first team’s league, so Excellence A is not a rung on the first-team ladder.

Youth

The 2025/26 regulations name U18 and U16, while the Game Center lists U19 and U16 elite, development, pool, playoff and cup competitions plus younger age groups.

  • Age-group competitions

The regulations say U18 and the catalogue says U19. Both are kept for this season. They are not one renamed age group until FSR confirms it.

Cups and playoffs

Swiss Cup, FSR Cup, playoff and ranking entries are separate competitions or season phases.

  • Parallel events and phases

Cup, playoff and ranking entries are not permanent league tiers.

Sevens

The current catalogue includes men’s, women’s and age-group sevens events.

  • Sevens events

These events sit alongside the XV leagues and are not part of the promotion ladder.
