Matchday is when people check the club account most. Players want the meeting time, supporters want the kick-off time and the score, and families who could not come want to know how it went. This checklist covers the day from the night before to the next morning.
The day before
- Post the team sheet, with the starting players and the replacements.
- Check the kick-off time and the ground with the team manager.
- Prepare the matchday graphic, so that it only needs a final check.
- Agree who posts the score and who takes photos.
- Make sure that the person who posts can sign in from their phone.
Before kick-off
- Post the matchday graphic: both teams, the kick-off time and the ground.
- Add directions or parking information for an away ground or a new venue.
- Share a photo of the warm-up or the team arriving, if the players agree.
During the match
Keep posts short and correct. A score at half time is more useful than many updates that are hard to follow. If your league or competition has rules about live updates, follow them. Check every score with the referee’s or the team manager’s count before you post it.
At full time
- Post the final score soon after the whistle, in the club’s result design.
- Thank the opposition, the referee and the volunteers.
- Name the player of the match, if your club chooses one.
After the match
- Post the best photos the same evening or the next morning.
- Share a short match report, written by a coach or a player.
- Post a player of the match graphic with a photo.
- Answer questions in the comments and pass on any concerns.

Next week
Write down anything that went wrong: a late score, a missing photo or a wrong kick-off time. Fix the cause before the next match. How to run your club’s social media covers the weekly routine around matchday.
