RC Mountfield Říčany (Rugby Club Mountfield Říčany) is a rugby union club in Říčany, Czech Republic. Founded in 1944, it plays at the Stadion Josefa Kohouta and won the Czech Extraliga in 2026. The club calls itself one of the most successful rugby clubs in the Czech Republic. Its name comes from its long-standing partner Mountfield a.s.
History
In 1944 a handful of enthusiasts, led by Josef Kohout, later regarded as the grand old man of Czech rugby, founded a rugby section in Říčany. The first training sessions took place on the DTJ ground by the railway line in front of the station. The clubhouse was a decommissioned railway carriage that, by the club's account, had belonged to Emperor Franz Joseph I himself. The team played its first match on 20 June 1944 at Strahov in front of about a thousand spectators, losing 6–26 to a side of former players.
The club won its first national championship in 1996, beating RC Dragon Brno over two matches in the final, 6–9 and 23–9. By the club's count, further senior titles followed in 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2011 and 2012. From 2021, in the club's words, it "settled on the throne of Czech rugby and refused to leave it", a four-year run that ended in 2024 with a 28–14 final win over RC Praga Praha for the club's eleventh title. Říčany were Extraliga champions in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, and runners-up in 2025. By the club's own count it had won 11 senior national titles by 2024, the last four in a row.
In 2025 Říčany lost 20–27 away to RC Tatra Smíchov and finished as national runners-up. Later that year they lost the national cup final to Tatra 20–23 after extra time. In June 2026 Říčany won the Extraliga again, beating the defending champions Tatra 19–12 in the final at their home ground.
