IKSU Rugby is the rugby section of IKSU (Idrottsklubben Studenterna i Umeå), a multi-sport non-profit association in Umeå, Sweden. It is one of IKSU's 16 sections. The section's women's and men's teams train together, and it also has a youth section. It belongs to the Norra Rugbyförbundet district. In 2026 the men play in Allsvenskan Herr 15s Norr.
History
Rugby has been played in Umeå since 2008, at first as Umeå Rugby Club. At IKSU's annual meeting in March 2015 members voted for Umeå Rugby Club to join IKSU as a section, and IKSU Rugby was formed. The parent association was founded on 5 May 1959. It is affiliated to the Swedish Sports Confederation (RF) and to the Swedish Academic Sports Federation (SAIF).
In 2023 the section organised a touch rugby tournament together with the Buddy Programme at Umeå University. It started its youth section in 2024. The same year Umeå Municipality bought the section's rugby posts and gave it the use of a pitch and facilities for future matches.
The men played their first season of league rugby in 2025. In early May 2025 the municipality put up the posts on the newly laid rugby pitch at Nydalafältet, a project it funded in full, and the section played six home matches there that year. In July 2025 the Swedish Rugby Federation's chair called IKSU "svensk rugbys nordliga utpost" (Swedish rugby's northern outpost), playing despite long distances. In September 2025 the federation praised IKSU for completing all its Allsvenskan matches with 60 mil (600 km) to its nearest away game. The section had 90 members in 2025.
Ground
The section plays at Nydalafältet Rugbyplan in Umeå, a single pitch laid by Umeå Municipality. In winter the teams train indoors, in halls including Helsingfors hallen, Moskva and England hallen.
