Göteborg Rugbyförening (Göteborgs RF), known in English as Gothenburg Rugby Club, is a rugby union club based in Gothenburg, Sweden. It calls itself a traditional Swedish non-profit club run on voluntary work. The club has teams from mini rugby to veterans, plays fifteens, sevens, tens and touch, and in 2026 has men's and women's teams in the southern groups of Allsvenskan.
History
The club was founded in 2007 from the merger of two local clubs.
In July 2016 the women's team went to Norrköping and defended the gold medal it had won the year before, in the club's words "showing Sweden how to play 7's". At SM-veckan, the Swedish championship week, in July 2016 the men finished sixth of eight, behind Stockholm Exiles, Södertälje RK, Norrköping RK, Hammarby RK and Pingvin RK. Later that year the Swedish championship fifteens final was set for Välen. The club called it "a 10th year anniversary of Göteborg ladies being in the Swedish Championship final".
In the corrected final table of the 2025 Damallsvenskan regular season, the women were sixth.
Honours
As of August 2026, by the club's count, the women's team has won the national title six times over the last 20 years, along with silver and bronze medals.
Ground
The club plays at Välen IP, where the rugby pitch of Välens Bollplaner is at Klubbvägen 20, 421 47 Västra Frölunda. The club has a clubhouse at Välen next to the car park. In winter the seniors' Thursday sessions move to Heden.
Teams and training
The club runs teams from Rugby Heroes, its mini rugby group for children from about four years old, to veterans. Its youth section covers age groups from under-8 to under-18 for boys and girls. The senior teams are the men, the women ("ladies") and the Simbas, a development side. The club also plays touch rugby and announced walking rugby events as new for 2026. It enters development tens, sevens and fifteens national series.
In 2026 the men play in Allsvenskan Herr 15s Söder and the women in Allsvenskan Dam 15s Söder. By 18 August 2026 the men had won one of their six league matches and the women had won all five of theirs.
