Rugby Football Club Augsburg e. V. (RFC Augsburg, RFCA) is a rugby union club in Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany. Its teams are known as the Augsburger Legionäre. The club has a men's fifteens side, a women's sevens team and youth rugby.
History
Rugby in Augsburg goes back before the club itself. In 1974 US forces stationed in the city formed a first rugby team. In 1996 a civilian rugby club, Friends of English Sports (F.O.E.S.) Augsburg, was founded; it was dissolved in 2002. From 2005 rugby was offered as a university sport at the Universität Augsburg, with the first matches, against RFC Bad Reichenhall and Sportbund Rosenheim, played from the autumn of that year. In 2006 a combined team (Spielgemeinschaft) with RFC Bad Reichenhall won the Verbandsliga tournament.
Rugby Football Club Augsburg was founded on 7 July 2007. The club won the Bavarian championship in 2014 and 2019; the 2019 title came with promotion to the Bundesliga 2. In 2021 the club was relegated to the Regionalliga. A combined team with Landsberg am Lech formed in 2022 was dissolved in 2024.
In 2026/27 the men's first team plays in the Landesliga Bayern.

Ground
The club's pitch is the RFCA Sportplatz, Wildtaubenweg 15, 86156 Augsburg, in the Bärenkeller district. From December to the end of March, or earlier if the weather allows, the men train indoors in the sports hall of the Werner von Siemens Schule, Neuschwansteinstraße 23, 86163 Augsburg.
Teams and training
The club has had a women's sevens team since 2017. In 2026/27 the women play in the RDF 7er Liga B, Division Süd, as SG Augsburg/Bad Reichenhall II. Youth rugby is offered from under-6 to under-16. The under-8 to under-16 teams play in Bavarian Rugby Union and Rugby Deutschland competitions in a combined team with Gröbenzell, Landsberg and Regensburg. The club also runs a second men's team (Herren II) and an Oldboys group.

The club invites people who want to discover, try, support or play rugby. Newcomers can simply come along to a trial session (Probetraining). The women's team invites newcomers, in English, to get in touch by WhatsApp.
