Hundested Rugby Klub (Hundested RK) is a rugby club in Hundested, North Zealand, Denmark. It has a senior men's side, youth and toddler rugby, and an oldboys team, and its men played in the 2026 Danish men's championship (DM Herrer).
History
Hundested Rugby Klub began in 1984, when Peter Rohde was employed as a teacher at Storebjergskolen; rugby was played in the school's PE lessons from September 1984. At an ordinary general meeting in January 1985, Hundested Skole Rugby was officially founded. In March 1985 the club was admitted to Hundested Sportsunion, and in May 1985 it held the first Hundested Rugby Cup on the Storebjergskolen sports ground.
The club soon built international links, especially with Swedish clubs in Malmö, Trelleborg (Pingvin) and Lund (LUGI), and made its first trip to England at Easter 1986. It took the name Hundested Rugby Klub in 1987, by which time it had a senior side. In 1988 the club played its first match on a newly laid municipal pitch east of the football pitches; it was uneven, with a difference in level of up to 1.5 metres, and a former stable was converted into a clubhouse. In the years 1988–1990 the seniors made their first tour, to Katowice in Poland, where they were the only Western team in a tournament against Polish, Hungarian and Russian sides, and in 1990 the club was promoted to the first division.
In 2026 the men played in DM Herrer; on 18 August 2026 Hundested RK were ninth of ten in the combined table, without a table point.
Teams and training
The senior side, HRK "Sælhundene" (the Seals), is for men aged 18 to 35. The youth programme is for children and young people aged 6 to 17, and tumlerugby, for children aged 3 to 5 with their parents, focuses on play, movement and community; its players are called "Sælungerne" (the seal pups). The oldboys team, "The Grey Seals", is for former players and rugby enthusiasts over 35; it trains with the seniors and plays oldboys tournaments and friendly matches in Denmark and abroad. As of August 2026, the women's team (HRK Kvindeholdet) is not active, and the club invites people to help restart it.
As of August 2026, senior training is typically on Tuesday evenings 18:00–19:30, indoors in winter and outdoors once the season starts, or on Tuesdays and Thursdays in another account. The club welcomes both beginners and experienced players, and its coaches adapt training to each player's level. Newcomers can attend two or three free training sessions before deciding to join.
As of August 2026, annual fees were 1,000 kr for seniors (18+), 600 kr for youth players (6–17), 750 kr for women (16+), 500 kr for oldboys (35+) and 250 kr for supporters; the club offers help to families with limited means.
Club life
The club's motto is "succes kommer af at spille med passion" (success comes from playing with passion), and its teams name their values as passion, togetherness, respect, discipline and fair play.
