Aalborg Rugbyklub Lynet (Aalborg RK Lynet, also known as Aalborg Rugby Klub) is a rugby union club in Aalborg, Denmark. Its men play fifteens in the Danish men's championship (DM Herrer), and the club also has a women's sevens side, youth rugby and a strength centre in its clubhouse.
History
The club was born in 1964 as Rugbyklubben Lynet, and admitted RK 72 in 1975 and Rugbyklubben Goliat in 1991. Aalborg Rugby Klub was founded on 6 June 1964 by Heinrich Leth. The club developed quickly, dominated Danish rugby through the 1980s and was a major supplier of players and officials to the Danish Rugby Union's national team, board and committees.
Rugby gained further ground in Aalborg in 1972, when Leo Pallesen founded Rugbyklubben Goliath and Heinrich Leth established RK 72 at the other end of the city, giving Aalborg three rugby clubs. In 1975 Lynet and RK 72 merged under the name Rugbyklubben Lynet, and in 1991 Goliath was also brought into the new Aalborg Rugby Klub Lynet. The merger took place under pressure from Aalborg Municipality, and by one account it later held back the development of youth rugby in the city.
Aalborg won a cup quarter-final against Aarhus 10–0; the club's 2009 teaser video has the highlights.
In 2025 the men played in the DM Herrer group stage (Grundspil Øst og Vest) and in the first-division (1. Div) play-offs. In 2026 they again played in DM Herrer; on 18 August 2026 Aalborg RK Lynet were sixth in the combined table after five matches, with 8 table points and 93 points scored against 179 conceded. The club also appeared in the 2026 men's regional sevens table and, as Aalborg Lynet, in the 2026 women's sevens series.
