Wests Bulldogs Rugby Club, known as Wests or the Bulldogs, is a rugby union club in Toowong, in Brisbane's inner western suburbs, Queensland, Australia. Founded in 1951 as Western Districts Rugby Union Club, it has been based at Toowong Memorial Park since 1961. The club fields men's, women's and junior teams, and its senior men play in Queensland Premier Rugby.
History
The club was founded in 1951 as Western Districts Rugby Union Club. It first played at Marist Brothers College, Ashgrove, and later at the Normanby Oval on Gilchrist Avenue. In 1961 it amalgamated with the Toowong Rugby Club and found a permanent home at Toowong Memorial Park, Sylvan Road, Toowong. A modest clubhouse was built in 1968 and extended over the following years. The club was incorporated as a company in 1974 and won its first Hospitals Cup premiership in 1977.
A new, commercially financed clubhouse, which the club puts at $15 million, opened in 2017. It led to a restructure in 2018. The company, Western Districts Rugby Football Club Limited, took on the leasing and management of the clubhouse and grounds and handed control of all playing activities to a new incorporated association, Wests Bulldogs Rugby Club Inc. The company calls itself the commercial arm, distinct from the playing entity, of the organisation known as "Wests" or "the Bulldogs".
The club's 2026 senior Queensland Premier Rugby rounds were against Easts, Norths, Sunnybank, GPS, UQ, Souths, Brothers and Bond.
