Sunnybank Rugby Union Club, whose teams are known as the Sunnybank Dragons, is a rugby union club in MacGregor, in Brisbane's southern suburbs, Queensland, Australia. Founded in 1969 as a junior club, it now fields men's, women's, junior and girls' teams. Its Premier Men play in the Hospital Cup, the highest level of Queensland Premier Rugby.
History
The club was founded in 1969 by John Biggs and his family as a juniors-only club. In the club's words, it was built on inclusivity, so that every child, regardless of ability, had the chance to play. The club fielded its first under-19 team in 1975 and its first senior team in 1979. It was promoted to First Grade in 1989 and made its first First Grade grand final appearance in 1993.
In 2025 the club and its partner, the Sunnybank Community Sports Club, announced a major redevelopment of the clubhouse, grounds and facilities. By the club's count, it fields 40 teams in Brisbane rugby union competitions. In September 2026 the Premier Women and the 4th Grade men reached Queensland Premier Rugby grand finals at Ballymore.
Ground
The club is at 470 McCullough Street, MacGregor QLD 4109, in the same precinct as the Sunnybank Community & Sports Club, SunPAC and MacGregor Cricket. The ground has three full-sized rugby fields and an additional artificial turf field, named in honour of the club's founder, John Biggs. It also has a clubhouse used for events and a recently upgraded gym. The floodlights on Biggs Field 1 were upgraded in early 2026, which the club called a milestone for Sunnybank Junior Rugby Club.
Teams and training
The men's programme covers the Premier Men, Colts, Grades and Golden Oldies. For 2026 the club entered one Premier Men's team, four Colts teams for players aged 18 to 20, and three to five Grades teams a season. The women play in the Premier Women's competition and in sub-district grades, and the club also runs a senior sevens programme. Over-35s play as the Sunnybank Puffing Dragons, a veterans' network that also holds a weekly game of touch.
The junior section runs from Little Dragons, a Get Into Rugby programme for four- and five-year-olds, through age groups from under-6 to under-16 and Junior Colts (under-18). Girls play fifteens at under-12, under-14 and under-16, and sevens from under-11 to under-17.

Club life
The club's colours are deep green, black and crisp white. The club calls the ground the "Home of the Dragons", and the club song opens with "Green, White, Black / When we put it on our back / We know we're playing for Sunnybank pride!" The club uses the tag #BleedGreen. The club keeps a list of former players who went on to play at state, national and international level.
